Moving from your present home into any form of senior living is, no doubt, a difficult decision. Often, seniors say, “I’m not ready yet.” As a result, unfortunately, many people wait too long and don’t get the full enjoyment of the experience . . . in fact, those same people often say after the move, “I wish I would have done this sooner.”

When is the "Right Time?"
So, how do you know when it is the right time? The following is a series of difficult questions that may help you or a loved one answer if the time is right for you.

  1. Am I bored and lonely at times?
  2. Does my social life revolve around the TV?
  3. Is my circle of friends shrinking?
  4. Could I use more exercise?
  5. Is home maintenance a burden and expense I’m tired of?
  6. Do I avoid driving at night or should I stop driving?
  7. Are housekeeping chores not as easy as they used to be?
  8. Am I caring for a spouse and it’s wearing me out?
  9. Am I eating poorly? Have my eating habits changed?
  10. Am I eating alone?
  11. Do I worry about needing help and not getting assistance?
  12. Do I want to enjoy better health?
  13. Would I be more comfortable if I had health services?
  14. Would I be more comfortable if I had reliable help with day-to-day activities?
  15. Am I relying on friends and family to do things for me?
  16. Is it creating a burden for them?

If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions, you may be ready for the benefits that living in a senior community offers. So, think seriously about the present quality of your life . . . maybe instead of “I’m not ready yet,” the better answer is “There’s no time like the present!”
