Victory Centre of Roseland residents exhibit great pride in being part of this historic Chicago neighborhood. Many of them have deep roots in the Roseland community where they lived, worked, raised their families and are now enjoying their retirement. Music to the Ears

Singing, stomping and drumming are all popular forms of self-expression among Victory Centre residents.

At over 20-voices strong, Victory Centre of Roseland’s choir raises the roof of the three-story building when they sing together. The community really shakes when Roseland’s staff and residents get together for “Juke Joints,” Soul Train line dancing or rhythmic drumming circles. Popular Friday “Juke Joints” always attract a crowd. Appealing to the cultural roots of many residents, Juke Joints are reminiscent of the blues establishments that sprang up in the1930s in the southeastern United States and feature blues music, dancing and drinking.

 

Lifelong Learning

Art programs keeping seniors sharp in Chicago

Residents let their creativity shine in poetry club and at ArtPath programs, where they paint, make collages and do other art projects. Lifelong Learning programs and computer classes provide ongoing opportunities for intellectual stimulation as well. And years of culinary expertise comes to a full boil at the Victory Centre cooking club where members choose the recipes each month, shop for the ingredients and then prepare tasty foods for one another.

Just for fun, some Roseland ladies are members of the Red Hat Society, an international organization of women that celebrates life at every age, friendship and fulfillment. The men get their social fix at Victory Centre of Roseland’s Men’s club. And men and women alike enjoy regular fireside chats where they discuss a topic-of-the-day.

 

Being a Good Neighbor

Victory Centre residents are proud to be part of Roseland and committed to helping neighbors.

Victory Centre of Roseland provides bag lunches to the hungry in Chicago.

Victory Centre of Roseland residents help feed the hungry by delivering bag lunches to homeless shelters and give the gift of warmth by making no-sew blankets for Chicago Cares. They show appreciation to Roseland’s police and firemen by surprising them with the occasional breakfast.

Residents like to frequent local restaurants such as Morrison’s Soul Food Kitchen and Famous Dave’s BBQ. They also enjoy the occasional trip out of town for horseback riding, camping, hot air ballooning, visiting the Garfield Conservatory or gambling at the casino.
