Victory Centre of South Chicago in Chicago, IL

Signature Programs

Like an urban oasis, Victory Centre of South Chicago gives residents the best of city and country living thanks to its location and “green” certification. Designed and built using earth-friendly practices, Victory Centre of South Chicago is one of the first senior housing buildings in Chicago to achieve LEED certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. Residents enjoy the benefits of breathing cleaner air, paying lower utility bills and having plenty of access to outdoor, natural spaces. Yet, they are conveniently located one block from a train line and have a bus stop in front of the building.

Good to be Green

Outdoor walking paths, raised garden beds and a labyrinth create an urban oasis.

Many Victory Centre residents are Chicago natives who enjoy city life but also appreciate the benefits of living “green.” As such, gardening in the community’s Victory Garden is a favorite pastime for those with green thumbs. The raised planters make it easier for residents to plant and pick fresh vegetables. The garden gives folks a reason to head outdoors, while promoting exercise and healthier eating.

Residents also enjoy meandering on the circular path of the community’s outdoor labyrinth. The labyrinth, an ancient symbol representing the journey to one’s own center and back, provides an artistic space where people go to meditate, reflect and be inspired.

Celebrate Good Times!

Victory Centre’s lovely grounds are the perfect backdrop for summer barbecues and even a wedding!

A Victory Centre maintenance manager chose to get married at the community in order to share the special day with his “family” of residents. The residents and staff served as wedding planners and coordinated all of the details from the invitations to the cake.

Dancing at the wedding was great fun, but Victory Centre residents don’t need a special occasion to get their groove on. Women boogie at the “women’s only” dance class, but they welcome the gents to the Soul Train line dancing group. Men and women show off their dance moves at the weekly happy hours and at the City of Chicago’s annual “senior” prom.

So Many Choices

Residents satisfy their intellectual pursuits by participate in book club, computer lessons, fireside chats, Lifelong Learning classes and the VIVA! World Tour program. Some get creative at ArtPath programs, drumming circles and cooking club, while others get competitive playing billiards and darts.

Victory Centre of South Chicago’s Senior Apartment building is also home to a City of Chicago Senior Center on the first floor. The Senior Center gives Victory Centre residents access to health and wellness resources as well as social opportunities and ways to stay connected to the South Chicago community.

Regular trips to local destinations for shopping, dining and to La Rabida Children’s Hospital to deliver toys help keep residents attached to their city neighbors. An annual invitation to go horseback riding and camping on a day or overnight trip with Camp! VIVA lets them experience country living.
