Victory Centre Residents play an active role in shaping the community

Therese chose to move into Victory Centre because of her desire to stay active and give back. Her wish was answered when she was invited to participate in a Yoga certification program. Now you can find Therese teaching the yoga class at Victory Centre twice a week. Also stepping up to lead the charge are residents who manage the book club, run the community’s country store, teach knitting classes, run nightly penny poker games and serve on a welcoming committee.

The Spice of Life

Victory Centre residents represent many faiths including Jewish, Protestant and Catholic. They celebrate and often share parts of their religious traditions with each other. During Chanukah, for example, Lillian and her daughters demonstrate how to make potato latkes and other residents enjoy making fried Matza.

Vernon Hills senior living gardening

One of the most popular programs is cooking with our chef. Chef David demonstrates multi-cultural dishes that coincide with the monthly VIVA! World Travel program. He focuses on healthy recipes that can also be made in microwave ovens, since most residents have one in their apartments. Also popular are the taste-testing happy hours, where residents sample a variety of tasty hors devours.

In the summer, fresh herbs and vegetables that the residents grow in the community’s Victory garden inspire many of the recipes. With the help of local school children, they also harvest pumpkins in the garden to use for the annual fall festival.

Creative Exploration

Whether discovering a hidden artistic gift or a new favorite museum, fresh experiences await.
